As a business owner you’re probably aware of how many tools and services are available to help you achieve your business goals. A million and counting, right?
If you’re anything like me, when you need to find a solution for a business task or problem, you probably start with a quick search and then spend hours going down the rabbit hole of researching endless options and weighing features, pros and cons.
I’ve put together this post to save you time figuring out the best tools for growing your online business. All of these are tools I use daily or weekly and have helped me grow my business exponentially over the past few years. I hope they help you do the same!
What’s the best (free) design tool for non-designers?
A question I see a LOT is from non-designers who want to create beautiful graphics to enhance and promote their business and content. I love Canva for easily creating marketing materials such as instagram posts or pin images, web design elements like website headers, blog post images and even logos.
You can use their huge catalog of free templates to work from and simply update the copy, brand colors and fonts. Check out my canva cheat sheet for a complete guide to getting started creating awesome promotional graphics without having to purchase any expensive design software OR the huge learning curve that comes with it.
What should I use for email marketing?
My favorite email marketing tool is ConvertKit (affiliate link!) because it’s super easy to set up sequences and to tag and segment your subscribers. For example, if you ask people a quick survey question or two in the first email you send out (automated) to someone after they subscribe, then you can add a tag to their profile that lets you know what answers they chose.
You can also add people to segments (or categories) based on which form they signed up for. This functionality is very helpful for improving your ability to do effective marketing that will appeal to the people on your email list. It’s also very easy to set up attractive forms and landing pages in ConvertKit without knowing any code. Among these and many other features, it also integrates easily with WordPress, Teachable and many other tools that I use in my business. Win!
How can I make it easy for clients to book with me?
If you work directly with clients in your business, then using scheduling software is imperative! I use Acuity to make it super easy for my existing and potential clients to book sessions with me. (If you don’t have an easy way for clients to book with you then they might not!)
On my website, I invite potential clients to schedule a free consultation call with me. Existing clients have the ability to cancel/reschedule sessions on their own, which saves us both time.
I also LOVE how you can customize the automated email responses and also send things like invoices, questionnaires, forms and documents on autopilot which decreases my time spent on new client onboarding and helps me get paid faster – what’s not to love about that? It also saves clients’ time because they can handle everything themselves without waiting to hear back from me.
