As a yoga teacher, you might think that most of your relationship building happens in person during classes or private sessions. While this may be true, please don’t discount the importance of having an online presence! Yoga teachers need a website to help establish their brand, grow a community and take your business to the next level.
Did you know that way before I started Code Love Creative I was a yogi? I completed my yoga teacher training and once I was ready to quit my job to be a freelancer I was able to supplement my income by teaching yoga classes a few times a week.
Because of my background in yoga I’ve been drawn to work with yoga teachers and others in the wellness field, and vice versa.
I know that not everyone has the crossover between computer/tech stuff and yoga/spiritual stuff. That’s why I’m starting to focus more on using my expertise to assist my fellow yoga teachers with creating websites and an online presence that will help them grow their businesses.

Four Reasons Yoga Teachers Need a Website
Build trust with potential and existing clients
Whether you’re just starting out as a yoga teacher or you have been in business for a while, having a website is going to help create a brand for your business. This means building trust with clients by establishing yourself as a professional and giving people context about you that sets you apart from the rest.
Having a website means you have your own home on the web where people can get to know you and learn about your offerings. By sharing your story and important information about your business, you give your existing clients a new way to connect with you online and possibly get to know you in a different way than they would in a studio setting.
Even if most of your clients originally found you by word of mouth, there’s a high chance that they looked you up online before reaching out. Having a website gives you a chance to display who you are and what you do so that the kinds of people you want to work with will know they found the right person when they find you. You want to attract the right kind of people – those who are in sync with the vibe that you’re putting out!

Own it! (literally)
When you have a professional website for your yoga business, not only do you own it as in “I totally have my sh*t together and I’m a total yoga biz badass.” You also own it, literally!
Sure there are other ways to have a presence online than having your own website. But when you rely on other websites and social media platforms you don’t technically own any of the content you are sharing.
Think about it for a second – if the only way you connected with your clients or attracted new customers was with Instagram or Facebook the you would be pretty screwed if the site suddenly wasn’t around. What if your platform of choice suddenly wasn’t as popular and you wanted to shift to another one? It would be almost impossible to bring all of the content you had created, not to mention your entire audience with you.
When you have your own website, you have complete control over the stuff that you’ve created. And even more importantly, you have a way to get in touch with your followers directly, without having to rely on a separate platform such as Facebook to be a middle man.
It’s great to use social media as a marketing tool, but it’s important to remember that your website is your home base. Everything you do to promote online should bring people back to your website as the main place where people can learn about you and get the information they need.
If set up correctly, your website can function almost like an assistant. There are a bunch of ways that you can set things up to do work for you automatically. One of my favorite tools that I use personally and recommend for yoga teachers is Acuity Scheduling.
As a yoga or wellness professional, one-on-one appointments of some kind are probably built into your business model. I want you to think for a second about your process:
- How do clients currently get in touch with you?
- What kind of process do you go through to get them on your schedule?
- Do you do any kind of “onboarding” such as asking them to complete a questionnaire or contract?
Have you ever thought about how much time you spent simply scheduling the appointments not to mention all of the other tasks required to bring in a new client? That’s not even time you can charge for!

Having a website makes it easier for your ideal clients to find you. In addition to looking professional and building trust, having content on a website also helps people find you when they use search engines like Google.
In techie web speak, this concept is called SEO, or Search Engine Optimization. It means that by having text and content on your website, you will show up when people search for those topics. This is really important for your yoga business because it’s one more way for potential clients to find you!
